Archivist's Thoughts- 5- Purpose of Life
Written by Jedi Archivist Kethrim

What is the purpose of life? Ultimately, we can answer this question only for ourselves. Each person must find her own answer. When you do have an answer, it can help smooth out your life. If you know what you're living for, it's easier to live.

For me, the purpose of life is to better ourselves and each other. We only live each life once, but what we do in a life has effects that stretch further than we can see. Every little thing we do affects others far beyond what we realize.

We see that when someone dies, he leaves behind everything physical. He leaves his clothes, his possessions, his body. He also leaves behind connections like his job, his friends, his family. What, then, does he take with him? His spirit is all that remains. What good is the spirit, then? Well, that depends on what he did during his lifetime. Some call this karma. If he committed acts of good, worked to become a better person, and helped others, his spirit will remember all of that, and in his next lifetime, it will affect him. Because he has already learned some lessons, he will be more inclined to do further good things. On the other hand, if he did bad things during his life, that too will follow him. He will have failed some tests, and he will have to take them again in another life. Because he has a history of bad acts, he will have to work harder to do good things in the next life.

If one is aware of this, and is determined to make good decisions and better herself and others, she will continue to do good, and her actions will result in a spiriling-up of good karma. If she doesn't realize or doesn't care, and makes bad decisions, and does not work, over many lifetimes, to become a better person, this will result in a spiriling-down.

Your choices are your own. Remember that everything you do affects everyone and everything, as all is connected through the Force.
